Mrs. Daniela Schmidt’s  Web Page

Welcome to my  classroom

I am the 6th grade homeroom teacher.  I will be teaching Language Arts and Reading/Literature to grades 6th, 7th, and 8th grade.  I am very  excited to be teaching your child or children.  I would like to keep the lines of communication open if you have any questions or concerns please call the school or e-mail me a message at schmidtd@ststephensgi.org.

There will be homework about three or four times a week depending  on the material covered.  All homework is done in their notebooks unless specified such as theme.

The children are given a writing assignment each week called a theme.  This assignment is discussed in class every Thursday.  They are to begin this assignment that evening and work on it on the weekend.  On Monday they must show me an OUTLINE and ROUGH DRAFT of the theme they are working on.

Every Thursday the children will be required to hand in the final copy of this theme neatly typed along with the rough draft stapled to the final copy.  This is required each week unless we do a theme in class.  Please check to see what topics are forth coming.

Children are often very gullible; they believe what they are told.  Write a narrative about something fantastic that you believed as a child.

I am a Canisius College graduate with a degree in Secondary Education.  I received a Bachelor of Arts  in English Education with a minor in  History.  My first time in the classroom was at Canisius High School where I taught 9th, 10th, and 11th grade  regents and 12th grade English honors  as a student teacher.  My next experience was at Williamsville South  teaching the same subjects. I have taught at a number of schools throughout my career including  schools in Geneva, New York. I was born in Trieste, Italy and speak fluent Italian.  I have also studied Italian, French, German, and know quite a bit of Spanish.  I taught French for five years, Social Studies for thirteen years along with Language Arts and Reading for twenty years.  This is my thirty-first year of teaching, and I still enjoy it very much.  I love being with the children and seeing their eyes sparkle when they understand what I am teaching them.  I try to make learning a fun experience for them because language arts can be a bit dry.  We do a lot of diagramming at the board to improve their grammar skills.  I have been doing a theme program for over twenty years which enables the children to become very good writers.  In Reading, I try to choose books that are classic as well as books that they can relate to as young adults.  You may stop by and see  the fantastic work my students are doing!!!
