Mrs. Moretti

Hope you have a very Happy and Safe Thanksgiving!

Grade 3

I am working very hard on making sure that your child has the appropriate amount of homework each night.  The handbook states that 3rd graders should have 30-45 minutes of homework per night.  Homework will be given each night in math and in handwriting.  Spelling homework is assigned on Monday and is due on Friday.  Other subjects may have homework too.  If I see during the homework prep period that the homework is heavy, I will make adjustments.

Sometimes when a test is scheduled, the homework may increase.  Also, sometimes students don’t finish their school work in class for many reasons.  Sometimes teachers will assign the unfinished work as homework in addition to their homework. Please keep me informed if the homework is taking longer 60 minutes.

BOOK-IT INFORMATION

Each month I will assign a genre for your child to read for the month.  All books must be at the 3rd grade level.  Levels can be found on the back cover of most books.  I am not requiring that you purchase book.  Please use the library, school library or ask me.  Many times I may have a few copies of the books that assigned for that month.  Once the book is read, students are required to write a short book report on what they have read.  Whenever possible, I will include a form for your child to use.  Sometimes it is difficult to find something that works for the book that was read.  In that case, students should use the 5 W’s when they are writing their report (who, what, where, when, why).  This will help them to get all of the important information written.  Summaries should be ½ - 1 page in length.

Book-it for 3rd grade is not an option.  All students must complete the assignment.

Book it for November is Historical Fiction.  This will be due on 12/1/08.

I have been teaching children since I started college in 1990.  After graduating from UB, with a degree in Early Childhood Education, I began working in an area daycare center.  After spending 7 years in daycare, I decided to return to school to work on my degree in Elementary Education.  After graduating from Medialle College, I began to sub at St. Stephens.  After subbing for 1 year, I was hired as the 2nd grade teacher.  I taught 2nd grade for 3 years, returning to school to pursue my Masters degree.  I earned my Masters degree in Elementary Education with a concentration in Reading from Canisius College.  I am permanently certified by New York State in Elementary Education & Reading.  After graduation, I left classroom to become the Reading & Remedial Services Coordinator.  This allowed me to interact daily with students in grades K-8.  In September of 2007, I decided to return to the classroom.  I have enjoyed being in the classroom & I am looking forward to a great year with your children.

Currently, I am the 3rd Grade Homeroom teacher, and teach 3rd Grade Language Arts and Math, 4th Grade Reading and Language Arts, and 5th Grade English/Language Arts Skills.
