Students in grades Kindergarten through 8th participate in a 38 minute physical education class weekly. Our program provides an opportunity to learn and improve sport skill development. All students learn to work with others in cooperative game settings learning good sportsmanship! This makes it possible for all children to participate, enjoy, and benefit in many ways from the experience.
Our curriculum is based on NYS Standards and is developmentally appropriate, ensuring that all activities are designed to meet the capabilities and needs of student learning. Our program provides the best opportunity, at all levels of ability and conditioning, to understand the effects of activity on the body, the risks of inactivity, and the basic components of health related fitness: cardio-respiratory, muscle strength, muscle endurance, flexibility, and body composition. Students perform basic motor and manipulative skills. They attain competency in a variety of physical activities and proficiency in a few select complex motor and sports activities. Students are provided opportunities to demonstrate and assess their fitness by participating in a wide range of exercises, games, and activities related to each component, and are encouraged to establish personal goals to improve fitness.
