Fine Arts

There is always something wonderful being created in St. Stephen’s art room!

Students in Pre-K attend a 20 minute art class weekly.  Students in Kindergarten through grade 8 attend a 38 minute class weekly.

Children will create expressive visual images using pencil, pen, crayon, paint, chalk, clay, yarn, cloth, paper, glue, scissors and many other art materials.  Students will look at, read about, and talk about art to learn about other cultures and places.  Various media and techniques will be utilized to learn about famous artists.

The creative process taught in our art class will expand into other disciplines as well.  Art education that enhances the creative process proves the importance of not only understanding the world we live in but creating solutions for that future world.

The halls are never quiet when music class is in session!

Pre-K students attend a 20 minute music class weekly.   Students in Kindergarten through grade 8 attend a 38 minute class weekly.

Students are exposed to a variety of music through listening, movement, and performance.  Basic concepts such as rhythm, melody, and form are taught with an emphasis on feeling the music with a steady beat.  Students will work on melodic echoing using the solfege symbols. While reading folk tales students will play instruments and sing songs.  Students will learn about composers and music history in the Baroque, Classical, Romantic, and Modern Eras.  Students in grades 3-5 will read the treble clef while they begin playing the soprano recorder.  Students in grades 6,7,8 will use both the treble and bass clef with computer software, Finale Notepad, to compose music.

All students in grades K-8 participate in our annual concerts at Christmas and in the spring.
